PEHP is a partnership of 7 specialist women only organisations, including:
- Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation (IKWRO),
- Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS),
- IMECE Women’s Centre (IMECE),
- Ashiana Network (Ashiana),
- Asian Women’s Resource Centre (AWRC),
- Foundation for Women’s Health, Research and Development (FORWARD); and,
- Women and Girls Network (WGN).
PEHP partners have extensive expertise in the area of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) including high levels of specialism around Harmful Practices. The partners provide advice, advocacy, counselling and training services to Black and Ethnic Minority women and girls covering 15 languages.
PEHP project aims to:
- Ensure the safety of women and girls who have been and/or are at risk of harmful practices;
- Create awareness of harmful practices to enable women and girls to understand and report the violence and seek support; and,
- Create awareness and understanding of harmful practices to enable professionals to be able to identify and respond effectively in their given settings.
The PEHP project provides the following services:
- Advice and advocacy surgeries
Provide specialist advocacy and advice to frontline professionals such as the police, social workers, midwives, and health visitors, to help them identify harmful practice cases and provide appropriate support to women and girls who have been and/or are at risk of harmful practices. - Multi-agency introductory training
Design and deliver general awareness training in harmful practices to all frontline professionals including social workers, the police, health professionals. - Specialist training
Design and deliver targeted tailor-made training on harmful practices to health professionals and social workers, training 15 per profession. - Community engagements events
Holding awareness raising events and dialogue with community members with the aim to change attitudes and understanding regarding harmful practices.
